The corpus of ancient Egyptian funerary literature describes the
journey of the Soul through the Otherworld and the process by which it was
transformed into a Being of Light. During this weekend intensive, we will
replicate this journey by means of rituals and guided meditations, replete
with Guardian Spirits and Gods, trials and hopeful triumphs.
In ancient Egypt, death was viewed as a catastrophic event. The newly
deceased was trapped in a liminal state, deprived of the ability to
function in the world of the living, and similarly powerless to penetrate
or operate in the Otherworld. The ceremonies outlined in the funerary
texts and "Books of the Dead," reintegrated and purified the newly dead,
gave them the power to act in both worlds, and ushered them through an
initiatory process culminating in judgment before, and hopefully acceptance
by, Osiris, the Lord of Eternity.
At its annual fall retreat, the Society of Elder Faiths presents Journey
into Spirit - The Book of Transformations, an experiential initiatory
journey through the ancient Egyptian Otherworld. Ten years in the
development, presented for the first time in a public forum, this series of
rituals is a faithful re-creation of ceremonies as taken from ancient
Egyptian texts.
Facilitated by past initiates, this intensive retreat will
seek to activate and integrate participant's subtle bodies, and give them
an intimate experience of ancient Egyptian magical practice and landscape.
