One of the most exciting projects we are planning calls for the construction of a stone circle on land which has been donated to the SEF in western Massachusetts. The site is a beautiful location at the top of a rise in a wooded area and could, in time, be the location of a memorial garden as well as the circle. The fulfillment of this vision would establish a spiritual and symbolic center for our activities.

Our adoption of the SEF Land has been a slow and steady process, beginning in 2002 with a beautiful Land-Blessing ritual attended by about 50 members and friends. A joyous energy was raised by a chorus intoning a substantial Chant of the Elements, and by dancers swirling their veils around the center of the ritual site. The scent of incense was carried throughout the area and mingled freely with the scents of the woodland plants.

In 2007, we were visited by Ivan MacBeth, foremost authority on the creation of modern day stone and wood henges and outdoor temple construction. He spoke at the Barn in Grafton, giving us a lot of information and showing slides of monuments he has designed or built. Then, many of us went out to Middlefield to stay overnight and visit our land the next day, noting the contours and the energy of the land at differnet spots.

There have been several trips to clear and clean up the site, and we hope to make this one of our lasting contributions to the community.
